Professional Services

The outsourced IT department for professional teams.

Professional-service companies, consultancies, agencies and technology firms often have no internal IT department, or a small team that needs escalation and specialist support. We act as the outsourced department or the specialist tier behind an internal team.

Context

What we see in professional services

Most professional-service firms arrive at managed IT the same way. The business grew, the person who was good with computers became the unofficial IT department, and now a fee-earner or a founder spends a chunk of every week resetting passwords, ordering laptops and chasing a supplier. It works right up until it does not — usually when that person is on holiday or leaves.

We take that over as the outsourced department: a helpdesk your people can actually reach, device management from purchase to disposal, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace properly configured rather than accumulated, identity and email security, and backups that have been tested. Where you already have an internal IT person, we sit behind them instead — escalation, specialist input, holiday and peak cover — so one person is no longer a single point of failure.

The unglamorous part is documentation. We record what you have, who supplies it, how it is configured and how it recovers, and we keep that current. It is what turns support from a series of rescues into something predictable, and it is what makes leaving us as straightforward as joining us. Delivery is framed as software, automation and administration support — we are not a certification body.

Failure points

What typically goes wrong

The accidental IT person

A fee-earner or founder absorbing support work that is not their job, at the cost of the work that is. Handing it over is usually the single biggest return on a managed service.

Microsoft 365 set up once and never revisited

Default settings, licences nobody audits, sharing left wide open and old accounts still active. A configuration review and licence clean-up often pays for itself.

Laptops bought as needed

Mixed hardware, mixed ages, no build standard and no record of what is where. Managed device lifecycle makes replacements predictable and offboarding clean.

One person holding all the knowledge

Passwords, supplier contacts and how-it-works living in one head or one spreadsheet. Documented systems and credentials under proper control remove that dependency.

Questions

Good to know

We have one internal IT person — can you help?

Yes. We provide escalation, specialist and out-of-hours support behind a small internal team, and cover holidays and peaks.

How small is too small?

There is no minimum that makes sense as a rule. What matters is whether the time your team loses to IT, and the risk sitting in an unmanaged setup, is worth more than a managed service. We will tell you if it is not yet.

What does onboarding actually involve?

A review of the environment, documentation of systems, devices, licences and suppliers, then agreed remediation of anything urgent before steady-state support begins. It is a defined, paid stage rather than something absorbed invisibly.

Do we have to move to your tools?

No. We support what you run. Where something is genuinely holding you back we will make the case and cost it, but changing platforms is never a condition of support.

What happens if we want to leave?

You take your documentation, your accounts and your data. Everything is held in systems you own, and the handover pack we maintain is what a new provider would need on day one.
